I'll start with the mouse. We lock it in the closet and left it over night. We figured poison should kill something fast, but nope, we didn't know it took 4-5 days! So we open the closet and no mouse to be found. We had to clean it out slowly. I had to take the coats outside and shake them to make sure the mouse wasn't in there. It was more of me throwing them on the ground figuring the mouse would run if that happened. We got down to one more glove on the shelf and saw it. It was still so we figured it was dead. Brad wanted me to hold the trash while he brushed it in. I wasn't having that so we switched... good thing too. Just as I went to brush the mouse it freaked out and jumped on Brad's arm, then shoulder and then onto the floor and ran towards our room. We both scram. (Brad said he didn't but he did do a sweet 'man' scream) So not only wasn't it not dead but we didn't know where it was. Worse feeling ever. We set up traps and bought these noise things that are supposed to make them stay out of the room they are in and we haven't seen it since. It's been 5 days, so we are just hoping its dead. The first night we lost it we were a little high strung. Brad was snoring and me half awake was trying to hit him, but I guess I was too far away so all his arm got was my hand softly running up and down it. It freaked him out and ...well the snoring did stop. I wish we had just killed it because not knowing sucks.
Now to Camden. We had to wait till Tuesday to see Dr. McKee. We were just hoping for a cast and when Dr. McKee looked at the x-ray he said, ' well lets talk options.' I knew that meant surgery... ugh. The way it broke down made it too close to the other bone and if it was just left it would inhibit his rotational ability. It also broke at an angle which made it too hard to just set it and get it to stay. He needed a rod put in it to do that. Wednesday he had surgery.
While surgery is not what we wanted the hospital staff was awesome to him. It was nice this time for me because I know a lot more on how the OR really works and this week we are studying anesthesia, and that helped to calm me a little. They let Cam pick out the smell of his face mask. He chose strawberry and they gave his stickers to decorate it. When it was time to go back I could tell he was really scared. He didn't cry at all, but I knew he got really nervous. The surgery wasn't too long and the rod went in really easy. Camden however didn't wake up well from anesthesia. He was even more scared when he woke up. The nurse said he kept trying to roll away form them because he didn't want them. When we were finally able to go to him we could tell he had been crying and still was a little. He kept asking when we could go home. The bad part is they have to stay there for an hour to be observed. Just before we did leave Cam got sick and felt a little sick most of the day. It's hard as a parent to stay brave and not cry when your child is so scared and sad and there's nothing you can do. Literally the second we pulled out of the hospital he was 100% happier. He would finally talk and just seemed a lot better. He spent most of the day just relaxing and he had to stay home from school one more day just for me to monitor his pain. He will go tomorrow though. Beck missed him at school.
As he was leaving they let him pick out an animal. He got a red bull.
Camden was done with just sitting pretty fast after the initial broke happened. He wanted to play games, but it's hard with only one hand. He improvised... who needs two hands when you have a mouth? He'll get a cast in a week. We should be able to get pictures of the rod in his arm too. Here's to an easy recovery.
